Build · Phase 1: Walking Foundation (4 Weeks)

Week 2 - Building Time on Feet

Welcome to Week 2! Great job making it through your first week of walking. This is a key part of establishing a consistent habit, and every step you took was a step towards building a healthier, more active lifestyle. This week, we’re going to build on that foundation by adding just a bit more time to your walks.

Your Goal for This Week

In Week 2, our goal is to increase your walking duration slightly to 20-25 minutes per session. We’ll still focus on three sessions throughout the week, but we’ll aim to walk just a little longer to help your body get used to being on your feet for an extended period. The pace should remain comfortable—this week isn’t about speed or distance but about getting your body accustomed to longer sessions.

The Plan

Here’s what your week might look like:

  • Day 1: 20-25 minute walk at a relaxed pace. Try to maintain the same comfortable pace you established last week.
  • Day 2: Rest or light movement (stretching, yoga, or mobility exercises). Take note of how your body feels and allow yourself time to recover.
  • Day 3: 20-25 minute walk again. Focus on finding a rhythm and noticing how your body adjusts to the longer duration.
  • Day 4: Another rest or active recovery day. Use this time to focus on flexibility or gentle stretching.
  • Day 5: 20-25 minute walk. If you feel confident, see if you can slightly increase the pace for a few minutes during the middle of your walk, but only if it feels comfortable.

Consistency is still the priority this week—it's about getting those sessions in and continuing to build a routine.

Tips for Week 2 Success

  • Warm Up and Cool Down: Take 2-3 minutes before each walk to warm up your body with gentle movements (e.g., leg swings, shoulder rolls). After your walk, do a few minutes of stretching to cool down and prevent stiffness.
  • Notice Your Breathing: Aim for a steady, natural breathing pattern. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth if that feels comfortable. If you find yourself getting out of breath, slow your pace until you feel comfortable again.
  • Track Your Progress: If you started using a journal or app last week, keep it up! Note any changes you feel—perhaps you notice you’re less tired during your walks, or maybe you find it easier to maintain your posture. These small observations are signs of progress.

Listening to Your Body

As you add a little more time to your walks, pay attention to how your body responds. It’s normal to feel a bit more tired, but if you experience any sharp pain or discomfort, pause and assess. It’s okay to shorten your walk or take an extra rest day if needed.

This program is about creating a sustainable habit, so be patient with yourself and adjust as necessary.

Looking Ahead

By the end of Week 2, you’ll have increased your walking time and built even more confidence in your routine. Next week, we’ll continue building on this progress by introducing a bit more variety to keep things interesting and engaging. For now, focus on maintaining consistency and celebrating each step you take!

Enjoy Week 2, and remember: it’s not about how fast or far you go; it’s about creating a habit that feels good and fits your life. You’re doing amazing, and every minute you spend walking is a win. See you in Week 3!
