Welcome to Week 4! You’ve made it to the final week of the walking foundation phase—congratulations on your consistency and dedication so far. By now, you’ve built a solid routine, increased your walking time, and even experimented with different routes and paces. This week is all about consolidating your progress, reinforcing those habits, and getting ready for the next phase of your journey.

Your Goal for This Week

The focus for Week 4 is to maintain your walking sessions at 25-30 minutes per session, ensuring that the habit you’ve established feels comfortable and sustainable. We’ll keep the plan simple and steady, helping you to wrap up this phase feeling confident and ready for the next steps.

The Plan

Here’s how your week might look:

  • Day 1: 25-30 minute walk at a comfortable, steady pace. Use this session to focus on finding a natural rhythm and enjoying the walk. You’ve built up to this duration, so take a moment to appreciate your progress.
  • Day 2: Rest or light movement (stretching, yoga, or mobility exercises). Allow your body time to recover and recharge.
  • Day 3: 25-30 minute walk. Try to keep a steady pace and, if you’re feeling up for it, incorporate 2-3 minutes of brisk walking to keep challenging yourself lightly.
  • Day 4: Rest or gentle movement day. Stretch, practice some deep breathing exercises, or do any light activity that feels good for your body.
  • Day 5: 25-30 minute walk. End the week by walking at a pace that feels natural and comfortable. This walk is about enjoying the moment and feeling the confidence that comes from building a strong habit.

Consistency and ease are the focus this week. By maintaining this routine, you’re ensuring that the habit you’ve formed over the past few weeks will stay strong as we transition to the next phase.

Tips for Week 4 Success

  • Focus on Consistency, Not Perfection: This week is about building confidence in the routine you’ve created. It’s not about pushing harder or faster—just show up for your walks and enjoy the process.
  • Pay Attention to How You Feel: Notice any changes in your energy levels, mood, or how your body feels after your walks. These small observations are great markers of your progress, and they’ll help you gauge your readiness for the next phase.
  • Celebrate Your Successes: This is a great week to reflect on your progress. If you’ve been journaling or tracking your walks, look back and see how far you’ve come. Whether it’s feeling more energetic, finding walking easier, or simply enjoying the routine more, every step is a success.

Preparing for the Next Phase

At the end of this week, you’ll have completed the walking foundation phase—an amazing achievement! The goal was to build consistency, develop a habit, and prepare your body for the next phase of your journey. As you finish up Week 4, take a moment to celebrate how far you’ve come.

Next week, we’ll start introducing walk-run intervals as we shift into Phase 2. Don’t worry—just like this phase, the transition will be gradual and manageable. You’ll have options to adjust based on what feels comfortable for you. For now, focus on wrapping up this phase with confidence and excitement for what’s ahead!

Looking Ahead

Completing Week 4 means you’ve established a routine that sets you up for success as you move into the next stage of your journey. As you finish this week’s walks, know that you’ve built a foundation that will support you in reaching your 5K goal, whether you choose to walk, walk-run, or run it.

Well done on reaching the final week of Phase 1! You’ve done an amazing job building a habit that will carry you through the rest of the program. Keep up the great work, and I’ll see you in Phase 2, where we’ll start adding some fun, manageable challenges to take your progress even further!
