Overview
This lesson includes a video. Loading it connects to YouTube.
Welcome to Phase 1 of your journey towards completing a 5K! This phase is all about establishing a solid foundation through walking. Whether you’re completely new to physical activity or getting back into it after some time off, this is the perfect place to start. Over the next four weeks, we’ll build consistency, improve cardiovascular health, and develop the habit of moving regularly.
What to Expect
Phase 1 is designed to gradually increase your walking duration and intensity. Each week, you’ll have a set of simple goals to follow, helping you ease into the routine without feeling overwhelmed. You’ll also be introduced to basic techniques that will set you up for later stages when we begin adding running intervals. The focus is on building confidence, developing endurance, and getting comfortable with spending time on your feet.
How It Works
- Duration: This phase lasts for four weeks, with three to four walking sessions each week.
- Intensity: We’ll start with short, easy walks and slowly increase your time and pace. No rush, no pressure—just progress at a pace that feels right for you.
- Goals: By the end of Phase 1, you’ll be ready to transition to Phase 2, where we introduce walk-run intervals. But remember, this journey is flexible, and YOUR pace is the right pace.
What You’ll Learn and Gain
- The importance of consistency: Building a routine that works for your lifestyle.
- Proper walking form and posture tips: Maximising comfort and reducing injury risk.
- How to track your progress: Using simple tools or apps to stay motivated.
A Note on Flexibility and Listening to Your Body
This program is about working with your body, not against it. It’s completely normal for some days to feel more challenging than others. The key is to listen to your body—if you need to slow down or repeat a week, that’s perfectly okay. Every step forward, no matter how small, counts.
Ready to Begin?
Start Week 1 when you’re ready, and remember: every walk is a step towards the 5K goal. Let’s take this one week at a time and enjoy the process of building a habit that supports your health and well-being!
