Week 7: Building Confidence Through Consistency
Welcome to Week 7.
This is a big week, whether it feels like it or not.
Six-minute running intervals might not sound dramatic on paper, but they represent a huge shift from where you started. You’re no longer “trying running”. You’re running regularly.
And that deserves to be acknowledged.
Your Goal for This Week
The goal for Week 7 is confidence through repetition.
You’ll be running for 6 minutes, followed by 2 minutes of walking, repeated three times. The structure stays familiar. The challenge is slightly longer running time.
This week is about proving to yourself that you can keep going, calmly and consistently.
What to Focus On This Week
Rhythm Over Effort
At this stage, running should feel steady rather than strained. If you’re pushing, you’re probably going too fast.
A comfortable pace that you can repeat across all three intervals is exactly what we’re aiming for.
Relaxed Form
Check in with your shoulders, arms, and breathing. Tension creeps in as runs get longer. Let it go where you can.
Confidence Comes From Completion
It’s not about how strong you feel halfway through. It’s about finishing the session knowing you managed it on your terms.
Common Thoughts You Might Notice
It’s very normal around this point to hear your inner voice say things like:
- “This feels harder than it should”
- “Am I really cut out for this?”
- “What if I can’t keep progressing?”
Those thoughts don’t mean anything is wrong. They mean you’re stretching your comfort zone.
Stay with the plan. Trust the process. You’re exactly where you need to be.
Adjustments Are Always Allowed
If six minutes feels like too much right now:
- Slow the pace
- Shorten one interval
- Repeat Week 6
Progress isn’t measured by how fast you move through weeks. It’s measured by how well you keep going.
Looking Ahead
Completing Week 7 means you’ve built the endurance needed to move toward longer continuous running in the final phase of this block.
Next up, Weeks 8 and 9 will gently guide you toward longer runs with shorter recovery. You don’t need to worry about that yet.
For now, take a moment to recognise how far you’ve come.
You started with walking.
You built run-walk confidence.
Now you’re running for six minutes at a time.
That’s real progress. And it counts!
