Welcome to Phase 2! In this phase, we'll gradually transition from walking to a mix of walking and running intervals, building toward the goal of reaching 30 minutes of continuous movement. This is an exciting and transformative phase, and it’s designed with flexibility to suit your pace and comfort level.
What to Expect:
Over the next 9 weeks, you'll follow a structured plan that increases the duration of your running intervals while reducing the walking segments. We’ll take a gradual approach to help your body adapt to the new demands of running. This phase is all about building endurance, establishing a comfortable run-walk rhythm, and learning to enjoy the feeling of running, no matter your pace.
Phase 2 Breakdown:
- Week 1: We'll start with short running intervals, keeping the majority of your session as walking.
- Weeks 2-4: Each week, the running segments will gradually increase while maintaining recovery time through walking.
- Weeks 5-7: These weeks will challenge you further, helping you build stamina and confidence as we extend the total running time.
- Weeks 8-9: The final weeks are about consistency and progression, aiming to get you comfortable with a 30-minute walk-run routine.
Tips for Success:
- Listen to Your Body: It’s normal to experience some muscle soreness as you increase your activity level, but pay attention to any pain or discomfort that feels sharp or persistent. Adjust your effort and take rest days as needed.
- Adjust Intensity: You’ll be running at a comfortable pace—this should feel manageable, not intense. You should still be able to hold a conversation during your running intervals. If you need to adjust to shorter running intervals or slower paces, that’s perfectly okay.
- Build Your Routine: Aim to complete your sessions 3-4 times per week. Consistency is more important than speed at this stage.
- Celebrate Small Wins: Each week, you’ll be achieving something new, so take time to acknowledge your progress. Even the smallest improvements are significant steps forward.
Your Goal for Phase 2: By the end of these 9 weeks, you’ll be able to complete 30 minutes of movement comfortably using a walk-run pattern. Remember, it’s not about the speed or distance covered—it's about finding a rhythm that works for you and getting comfortable with the feeling of running. Whether you continue to mix walking and running or aim for longer running intervals, you’re progressing in the right direction!
Take your time, trust the process, and let’s get ready to start Week 1!
