Ten Thousand Steps

Walking is one of the simplest ways to rebuild a relationship with movement.

Ten thousand steps can be a useful marker, but it is not a rule and it is not the point. The point is to increase your daily movement in a way that fits your body, your season, and your life.

Start Where You Are

If you currently walk 3,000 steps, a jump to 10,000 may be too much.

A better reboot might be 3,500. Or one extra loop around the block. Or a short walk after dinner. Progress is easier to repeat when the next step is believable.

Walking Supports Running

Walking builds time on feet, aerobic capacity, confidence, and recovery.

It also gives you a way to keep your identity alive on days when running is not right. A walk can be a training choice, a recovery choice, a mental health choice, or simply the thing that keeps you connected.

Make Walking Visible

Try making walking part of the day instead of another task to squeeze in.

  • walk while taking a call
  • park a little further away
  • use a short route after lunch
  • choose a regular local loop
  • walk before deciding whether you still feel stuck

Suggested Reflection

Track your steps or walking time for a few days without judgement.

Then choose one small increase that feels repeatable.
