Walk, Run, Achieve Week 16

It took a surprisingly long time for me to realise exactly how things are, and that what I really needed was a complete reset / restart. Admittedly things were complicated by sleep apnoea and diabetes type 2 diagnoses along the way, but I was still trying to train based on where I was before.

Finally, 17 weeks ago, I made a start on a training program that started at ground zero, with 4 weeks of walking. This was almost exactly the same as how I started at the end of 2011 (that isn't a coincidence, it was quite deliberate!)

Taking that significant step back has proven to be exactly what I needed. While there have been moments where I've had to ease back, I now have a solid 4 months of walking and running under my belt, and yesterday ran (very slowly) 3km non-stop.

There are 6 weeks remaining, at the end of which the aim is to be able to run a continuous 5km. Something I haven't done for longer than I can remember!

All in all, these past few months have been incredible, and I actually have my running mojo back! It's also been a very clear example of how things are never linear, and how things are never over... as long as you keep going!

Who knows, I may even enter an event (other than parkrun) before this year is out 😉
